An Open Call For Legal Action Fund Assistance

International Solidarity Movement – North Carolina

This summer volunteers from around the world will be traveling to Palestine to volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement. They will join Palestinian communities and grassroots organizations in nonviolent protest to Israel’s ongoing military occupation.

ISM-NC will be supporting these volunteers but we need your help. Over the last year the Israeli government has stepped up its targeting of peace activists for arrest and deportation. Last summer more than 75 international ISM volunteers were denied entry or deported.

Palestinian activists face brutal treatment by the Israeli military and police forces when arrested. Furthermore, when arrested Palestinians are often held without charge for at least six-months in “administrative detention.” As a result, ISM Palestine has made legal support for Palestinian volunteers a priority over that of internationals. The international ISM chapters are called upon to provide funds for legal services should international volunteers require them.

ISM-NC is calling for donations to our Legal Action Fund! It is often said that “every dollar counts.” In this case it’s true! No donation is too small or too big. Every dollar raised for the Legal Action Fund will only be used for legal expenses. It will not be redirected to other projects or costs. What is not spent this year will be maintained for future legal expenses.

International volunteers on the ground in Palestine play a vital support role for local communities. They can bring the stories and the realities of everyday Palestinians outside to the wider world when journalists cannot. They bare witness to the truth of the occupation.
